Pauline’s Testimony

Hear Pauline’s testimony of how she was born again!

My name is Pauline Dadane, and this is the story about how God answered my prayer.

I was born and raised in Botswana. In my younger years I attended St. John’s Apostolic Church with my family. There I learned the Sunday School songs and some Bible stories.

When I was older, I started fellowshipping with the Mount of Zion Church. They were reading the Bible but they could not explain what the Word of God meant. They believed in sacrifices and prophecy.

But I was always troubled in my spirit, when I looked at my life. I found that I was just like those who don’t know God. I was a member of the church, but I was no different than the people outside the church. We were doing the same things most of the time. I was worried—I was inside the church but I was no different from those who didn’t come to church. I wondered why. I wanted to understand the Word of God. I wanted to be born again. I wanted to be a child of God.

Then one day, the church I was attending had problems with some issues in the church and divided. The branch of Makobo was forced to register its own ministry. In 2001 we had 75 members. But then we stopped offering sacrifices after reading in the New Testament that it was wrong, and our membership dropped to just 10 people. We were reading the Bible but we didn’t understand how to be received by God. I knew that God had not received me. I was praying, praying to God, “God, give me the right thing. I want to be your child. Help me to know how I can be your child.”

All during the year 2008 we prayed and fasted. In 2009 I saw somebody selling books and one was titled, Helping Your Church to Grow Through Prayer. At that time I still wanted to be a child of God so I bought the book and read it. But I still felt that there was something missing.

In 2010 we sat down with our church leaders to talk about how we can make our church grow. We decided to send somebody to Nigeria to talk with a man there. We raised money for the journey but we couldn’t manage to go.

Then in February 2011 one day I came home from work, and my husband told me, “I was with a visitor from America who brought the Word of God. They are teaching the Word of God.” I tried to ask him, “What kind of Word of God?” And my husband told me, “If I understand him, it is the Word of God that we have been wanting.” But I still was not convinced. Then one day I found one of the tracts the visitor brought and I read the tracts. It talked about how to be born again. I knew this was what I had been looking for.

We started doing a Bible study with this man and he came to our village to teach the Word of God to us. I learned many things from the Word of God that I had never heard before. I learned that we are all sinners and God is going to judge us for our sin. I also learned that Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay for my sins and that I needed to turn from my sins and ask Him to save me. One verse from the Bible that God used to show me the truth was Psalm 51:10. “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew and right spirit within me.” That was what I wanted God to do in my life.

On the 26th of June, 2011, we ended our Bible study with a verse from the Bible. In John 6:37. Jesus said, “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.” I knew this was God’s promise to me that if I would leave my sin and turn to Christ, He would save me.

That day, after we got finished with the Bible study, I bowed my head and prayed and asked God to save me. I told God that I was a sinner but I wanted to leave that sin and turn to Christ. I asked God to wash me clean in the blood of Jesus Christ. That is the day that I was born again.

Today I know that I am saved. My life was changed since I was born again. Today I am free in everything. I am very happy in my life. Now I can pray and know that God hears my prayers. When I read my Bible, I understand what God is saying and what God wants me to do. I thank God for having sent the message of salvation to me.
