A young preacher submitted a few sermon illustrations and asked for some “honest feedback”.

Here it is…it may be of help to others asking, how do I craft a sermon illustration.

There is much more to building a sermon illustration…but this is a great beginning.

School has ALREADY started…

by dhammett on July 23, 2012

Yes I know, your school year does not begin for about a month. But the truth is that every Christian is already in school. They are to be learning of Jesus Christ.

The book In the School of God with Joseph is a series of messages I preached that was a great encouragement to me and to many in the congregation. These messages were very challenging.

  • If you are a pastor looking for some material to build from for the starting of the school year this might just be something you can profit from.
  • If you are looking for material for a Bible study class or Sunday School class, this might just be a great series to consider.
  • If you are looking for some Bible principles that will help you deal with difficulties in life and continue to grow, this is worth your time to look at.

You can get this book in Kindle, Nook or PDF from right here… https://www.purposedcoachingblog.com/about/ebooks-by-doug-hammett/in-the-school-of-god-with-joseph/

Consider #2 for Sermon Illustrations

by dhammett on June 24, 2012

Sermon Illustrations must be crafted with these 2 distinctions clearly in mind. Without this distinction you will miss the authority of the Word of God in your messages. With this distinction you can capture the intent of the Holy Spirit and find your illustration a light on the truth of Scripture.

Remember #1 for Sermon Illustrations

by dhammett on June 24, 2012

Sermon Illustrations need to have this one focus or they will fall flat. Knowing this truth can make your illustration come home to the heart and make the truth live. Without it you will often fall in the trap that so easily will mislead you.

The first is probably the most popular source, but it is really the worst place to start looking. The other four sources will give you help in your sermon preparation. The gospel preacher or pastor will be well served to use great and powerful sermon illustrations.

Opening the door to prayer; Charles Spurgeon
