100 Years Ago Today

by dhammett on December 25, 2014

It was an amazing happening…100 years ago the Allied forces had been fighting for many months with the German forces. WWI was in full swing.

Death was all along the 466 mile front.

On Christmas Eve, the Germans began to call out, “Do not shoot after 12 o’clock and we will not do so either,” and then: “If you English come out and talk to us, we won’t fire.”

There was no end in sight to the war, but this day was to be an amazing exception.

The Germans hoisted their lamps above the trenches calling for a truce.

The Allied forces were fearful it was a trick.

Finally an Irish soldier in an act of bravery walked across the no-mans land and was greeted with a cigar.

Soon soldiers on both sides came out and cautiously greeted one another.

What caused this cease fire?

It was Christmas day.

Christ is the centralizing person that should take front stage in every church and cause us to serve Christ without regard to our personal agendas.

This is the one purpose that has made a difference in every church torn by strife that has been able to come to healing and restore it’s effectiveness in the work of God

Sadly this truce 100 years ago only lasted one day.

Whether Christ makes a difference for a lifetime or not is up to each member.

I pray your Christmas and New Year will be abundantly blessed of God.
